There's been a 27% decline of biodiversity between 1970-2005. This includes number of species as well as number of individuals in different populations.
Human population between 1970-2005 has increased 62,9% from 3,96billion to 6,45billion.

Earths capability to provide resources for human needs and absorb wastes was crossed in the late 80's. Today human population is spending 25% more than earth can give us and recover from.

"The ultimate drivers of threats to biodiversity are the human demands for food, water, energy and materials.... ..as the human population and global economy crows, so do the pressures on biodiversity."
